The Great Austral Loop voyage sails round-trip from Ushuaia, Argentina, bookended by round-trip charter flights to and from Buenos Aires, Argentina. Enjoy 1 day in the Falkland Islands, 3 days exploring South Georgia and 5 days aimed at Zodiac and shore excursions along the Antarctic Peninsula. New Island, with its distinctive jagged relief, is located on the western edge of the Falkland Islands and is home to a tiny village of two families. Step onto the golden sand of its flower-lined beaches, beside which an old stone house still stands, and enter a natural paradise. A narrow pathway weaves around typical Falkland moorlands; follow it to the heart of a colony of southern rockhopper penguins, black-browed albatross and imperial shags. It’s the perfect opportunity to watch the albatross swoop down from the cliffs and skim the waves that crash against the rocks on the exposed side of the island.
The ship then makes her way through the turbulent Woolly Gut strait and emerges in the stillness of Grave Cove. Located in the northern edge of the Falkland Islands, this bay owes its name to the vestiges of whalers’ graves that overlook the beach. We highly recommend arriving one day prior to your trip start date in case of any flight delay, cancellation or lost luggage issues. Internal Flights
Economy class group charter flights between Buenos Aires and Ushuaia, Argentina, are included with this trip’s itinerary; see the Transfers program information listed above under Inclusions. Charter flights are unique per departure and details will be confirmed in advance. The flight to Ushuaia is expected to depart after breakfast on Day 2 of the itinerary. There is a luggage limit of one checked bag weighing up to 50 lbs (23 kg) and one carry-on bag weighing up to 18 lbs (8 kg) on the flights between Buenos Aires and Ushuaia for Economy class. Premium Economy seating is available upon request for an additional charge. The luggage limit for premium economy is two checked bags weighing up to 50 lbs (23 kg) each and one carry-on bag weighing up to 22 lbs (10 kg). Additional baggage allotment can be requested and purchased (inquire for pricing) and is based on availability. On the final day of the itinerary, the ship is scheduled to arrive at the pier and breakfast is held on board. In 1764, Louis Antoine de Bougainville settled the first pioneers here and the port grew rapidly. Arrival & Departure
The 20-day Journey to Austral Lands & Valdes Peninsula voyage begins and ends in Buenos Aires, Argentina (EZE). We highly recommend arriving one day prior to your trip start date in case of any flight delay, cancellation or lost luggage issues. Recommended flight arrival and departure times are specific to each voyage; consult your Adventure Specialist for guidelines relating to your departure. Internal Flights
An Economy class group charter flight between Buenos Aires and Ushuaia, Argentina, is included with this trip’s itinerary; see the Transfers program information listed above under Inclusions. Charter flights are unique per departure and details will be confirmed in advance. The flight to Buenos Aires is expected to depart after disembarkation on the final day of the itinerary. There is a luggage limit of one checked bag weighing up to 50 lbs (23 kg) and one carry-on bag weighing up to 18 lbs (8 kg) on the flight between Ushuaia and Buenos Aires for Economy class. Premium Economy seating is available upon request for an additional charge. The luggage limit for premium economy is two checked bags weighing up to 50 lbs (23 kg) each and one carry-on bag weighing up to 22 lbs (10 kg). Additional baggage allotment can be requested and purchased (inquire for pricing) and is based on availability. On the final day of the itinerary, the ship is scheduled to arrive at the pier and breakfast is held on board. Disembarkation follows breakfast.
Activities
Various optional activities may be available on your 20-day Journey to Austral Lands & Valdes Peninsula voyage at the following per-person cost: kayaking for 350 euros (one outing with no experience required). Additional activities include practicing photography, Zodiac cruising and shore-based excursions, including a possible hike. In addition to these off-ship excursions, a multitude of onboard activities keep guests engaged, including live music, dance and theater; spa treatments; exercise and stretching classes; specialty food, wine and cocktail tastings; organized games; and lectures by guides and possible special guests.
