Las Palmas
Explore Las Palmas, a haven for birdwatchers where the treetops come alive with color and song—macaws, toucans, and countless endemic species in a spectacular aerial ballet unique to the Amazon.
Iquitos Caño
By skiff, discover one of the most important zones of the Pacaya Samiria National Reserve. Never does nature seem more bountiful than in the tropics. Watch birds, observe their special displays and listen to their songs. The area’s large trees and old palm trees favor the presence of several parrot species. This particular spot also has a great number of other birds of different species. Look for the famous hoatzins nesting a few feet above water, and perhaps a sloth or two of the three-toed kind.
Amazon Natural Park & Shaman Ceremony
Walk along forest trails guided by your naturalists as you uncover the secrets of medicinal plants used for generations by local communities. At the end of the trail, you’ll take part in a powerful Shamana Ceremony led by Carola, a revered healer whose deep connection to the jungle spirit offers a rare glimpse into the ancestral heart of the Amazon.
Yanayacu/Yarapa River
Navigate the serene waters of the Yanayacu or Yarapa River. Glide on kayaks or paddleboards through hidden lagoons and swim near playful pink river dolphins. Low-water season season reveals the hidden Amazonian beaches—pristine stretches of sand where you’ll pause to enjoy a playful and rejuvenating mud treatment, straight from the riverbed itself.
Shiriyacu/Ayuashicayu
Set off by skiff to explore the serene waters of the Marañón River. Your journey will take you to Ayuashicayu, a prime location for birdwatching. With a bit of luck, you may spot herons, kingfishers, hawks and many other vibrant species that fill the Amazon skies with color and song.
Fundo Casual
Take a guided walk through Fundo Casual, a winding path that invites you deep into the rainforest’s heart. With every step, discover the life that thrives beneath the canopy and uncover the intricate beauty of the rainforest—from tiny frogs and medicinal plants to curious insects, medicinal plants and towering ancient trees. With insights from your expert naturalists, every step reveals a new wonder of the jungle.
Piranha Fishing (Yarapa River or Nauta Caño)
Take a skiff exploration along the Yarapa River, a peaceful and biodiverse tributary teeming with life. Try your hand at piranha fishing, a thrilling tradition in the Amazon, as you glide past mirrored waters and the forest’s gentle stirrings. Alternately, Nauta Caño Creek is known for squirrel and silver back tamarillo monkeys, birds, dolphins and even sloths! Skim the riverbanks for small caimans and spiders, as well as insects of all colors, shapes and sizes. Take advantage of the calm waters to fish the famous piranha and learn more about this curious fish.
Amazon Confluence
Witness the breathtaking natural phenomenon at the Confluence—the sacred union where the dark waters of the Ucayali River and lighter currents of the Marañón River merge to form the mighty Amazon River. It’s a place of power and beauty, symbolizing the endless flow and transformation of life in the rainforest.
Community Visit (Fundo Casual, Pucate, Yarapa River, Nauta Caño or San José de Paranapura)
Visit a local riverside community. Here, you’ll have the opportunity to connect with the people of the Amazon, learn about their customs, traditions and daily life, plus gain insight into a way of life deeply rooted in harmony with nature and the jungle.
You’ll be welcomed by smiling faces and friendly people who have called the Amazon their home for generations. As you arrive by skiff, possibly pass by a typical local school where children will be delighted to greet you. Later, stop by a small handicraft market, where women from the community display and sell their incredible handmade art and crafts. As you walk around, you’ll witness daily life in the community—some may invite you to see the process of peeling and grating cassava, while others may show you the traditional tools used to process locally grown rice. A glimpse into the lives of the ribereños reveals how beautifully simple and rewarding life can be in the Amazon. If you wish, bring donations—school supplies, lightweight clothing, or hygiene items are always appreciated.
Night Safari (Pucate River or Nauta Caño)
As twilight fades, the adventure continues with a night safari along Nauta Caño or the Pucate River—where the forest reveals its most mysterious side under the soft glow of the moon.
