Alaska's Inside Passage & Hubbard Glacier Itinerary
Sail Alaska’s inside passage and Hubbard Glacier for 8 days from Vancouver, British Columbia to Sitka, Alaska. Highlights include Misty Fjords, Wrangell Narrows & Hubbard Glacier.
Arrive in Vancouver by early afternoon. Embark this evening in time for cocktails and an introduction to the staff and crew.
Trace the wild and scenic coastline of British Columbia, exploring inlets and islands and watching for whales, dolphins, bears, deer and other wildlife. As the ship sails toward Alaska, enjoy talks from your expedition team or relax with a book in the lounge or on the observation deck.
Cruise through the serene waters of Misty Fjords National Monument, where sheer cliffs soar more than 2,000 feet above the deep, blue fjord. Wisps of cloud drift along the winding waterway, draping over emerald peaks and creating the ethereal mists that give this remarkable landscape its name. Explore by Zodiac or kayak to get closer to the forested shoreline and the many dramatic waterfalls that cascade down the towering cliffs.
Navigate the Wrangell Narrows, a spectacularly scenic waterway inaccessible to larger ships. Explore the coastline by kayak or Zodiac, and venture ashore to follow bear trails through the lush temperate rainforest. Along the way, naturalists share insights into this vibrant ecosystem.
In the evening, cruise Frederick Sound, watching for orcas and humpback whales surfacing and sea lions weaving through the clear water around the ship. Train your binoculars on the shoreline to scan for moose and Sitka black-tailed deer, as well as the black bears, wolves and bald eagles drawn to the salmon-rich banks.
Today, nature is your guide as you venture out with the flexibility to follow wildlife sightings and take advantage of shifting weather conditions. Explore spectacular bays and secluded inlets, tracing bear trails and salmon-rich streams. Or head inland for a peaceful walk through the forest, listening for the calls of bald eagles echoing from the towering spruce and hemlock trees. If conditions allow, paddle a kayak near the intertidal zone to search for the fascinating creatures that thrive there.
Enjoy a relaxing morning on the Gulf of Alaska as you trace the rugged coastline north toward Yakutat Bay. Keep watch for the towering summit of Mt. Fairweather, rising more than 15,000 feet into the sky. This afternoon, the ship enters the bay and makes its way toward the mighty Hubbard Glacier—a six-mile-wide expanse of ice within Wrangell–St. Elias National Park. If ice conditions allow, there may be a chance to Zodiac cruise for up-close exploration.
Explore the breathtaking bays of Chichagof Island, part of the ancient Tongass National Forest. This remote island hosts one of the world’s highest concentrations of brown bears and supports an incredible diversity of wildlife. Conditions permitting, paddle a kayak or stand-up paddleboard along rugged shorelines, or venture into the temperate rainforest for a rewarding hike.
After lunch, spend time on deck with the naturalists as you cruise along the outer coasts of Chichagof and Baranof Islands, keeping a keen eye out for the marine and terrestrial wildlife that frequent these shores.
After breakfast, disembark in Sitka and transfer to the airport for flights home.

Design, Sustainability & Accessibility
Every element of the ship’s design supports safe navigation in challenging environments, active adventures, and wildlife observation. Guests can also take part in educational programs and enjoy a comfortable onboard experience, making the vessel ideal for both immersive learning and relaxing exploration.
Ulstein X-BOW®
Built by Norway’s Ulstein Group, the MV Greg Mortimer: Lindblad is the first passenger expedition ship to feature Ulstein’s groundbreaking X-BOW® design. This inverted bow, already proven on more than 100 commercial vessels, enhances efficiency, stability, safety, and sustainability in challenging waters. Paired with Rolls-Royce dynamic stabilizers, it ensures smoother and more comfortable cruising even in rough seas.
The innovative bow allows the ship to move between landing sites more efficiently, reducing fuel consumption by up to 80 percent compared to older vessels and minimizing environmental impact. Its design also opens up unique viewing opportunities, with windows positioned close to the waterline that let guests see straight ahead and down into the ocean, perfect for spotting whales as they emerge on the horizon.
Multiple observation decks, including side-mounted observation wings, provide unparalleled vantage points for experiencing the environment from the ship. The combination of a slender hull, larger forward volume, and inverted bow delivers improved fuel efficiency, reduced wave impact, softer entry into swells, lower acceleration, minimized spray and slamming, and decreased vibration. Zero Speed stabilizers further enhance comfort, making Greg Mortimer: Lindblad a leader in expedition ship design.
Zodiac Launching Platforms
The Greg Mortimer: Lindblad carries 15 Zodiacs to support off-ship adventures. Guests board these sturdy inflatable boats from four dedicated sea-level launching platforms connected to the mudroom. This setup allows for smooth, safe, and efficient boarding, minimizing wait times so you can spend more time exploring. Whether cruising through Alaska’s fjords in search of wildlife or quickly transferring from ship to shore, the Zodiacs are an essential part of every expedition, providing both access and excitement for immersive exploration.
Activities Platform
Generous gear-up spaces and loading platforms were thoughtfully designed with input from experienced expedition guides. Guests can choose from optional adventures like kayaking and stand-up paddleboarding. The ship’s layout is purpose-built to support these activities, allowing for seamless and efficient movement between ship, sea, and shore.
Hydraulic Viewing Platforms
Beyond traditional observation decks, the Greg Mortimer: Lindblad is equipped with innovative hydraulic viewing platforms. Created with input from Greg Mortimer himself, these fold-out platforms deploy in calm conditions while cruising slowly or at anchor. Positioned close to the waterline, they offer clear, uninterrupted views of marine mammals, seabirds, and the surrounding seascape.
Responsible Travel Features
Environmental stewardship is built into the Greg Mortimer: Lindblad's design. Its highly efficient, low-energy engines deliver up to an 80% reduction in emissions compared to Tier 1 standards. Virtual anchoring technology uses GPS and thrusters to maintain position without traditional anchors, helping protect sensitive seabeds.
Safety Features
The Greg Mortimer: Lindblad is equipped with advanced safety systems that exceed industry standards for expedition vessels. Redundant propulsion and return-to-port technology ensure continued operation in the event of engine failure. Ice Class 1A and Polar Code 6 compliant, the ship meets BV and SOLAS requirements and includes a fully equipped medical clinic for remote-region travel.
Onboard Facilities
The Greg Mortimer: Lindblad's shared spaces are thoughtfully planned to balance comfort, functionality and scenic immersion. High ceilings paired with broad passageways create an open, airy atmosphere throughout the ship, while a centrally located stairwell and elevator make moving between decks simple and efficient. Sustainability-minded touches like water refill stations help reduce single-use glassware. Throughout the vessel, bold artwork adds character, and select corridors double as informal galleries, showcasing historic imagery, interpretive captions and rotating displays that introduce both guests and crew.
Lecture Theater & Lounge
